DNR officials nab coyotes near elementary school

Two coyotes that have been hanging around a West Hants elementary school have been snared.
Al bland of the natural resources department says there were four recent sightings near Brooklyn District Elementary School.
Bland tells the Herald in one case, the coyote was just standing and watching the kids from a little ways away, and he says that’s not a good situation.
Bland says a wildlife trapper has snared two animals, and although he can’t be certain, he says he thinks they’ve got the one involved.
Principal Brenda Newcombe says the sightings have caused a lot of concern and kids are no longer allowed to take any food out of the school.
He says a decrease in hunting is one reason why coyotes have lost their fear.
Bland says if everyone was wearing a $400 coyote fur coat, there wouldn’t be a coyote problem in Nova Scotia.
