News 95.7 gives away record-setting weather jackpot!

Seventeen straight weeks of perfect weather predictions have come to an end.

News 95.7 meterologist Richard Zurawski posted a guaranteed high of 8 degrees for Wednesday, but the daytime high hit 12 – just one degree too high.

That means Richard Barker, of Falmouth, wins our $2675 weather guarantee jackpot. Barker, whose name was drawn this morning at 8:21 a.m., says he’ll use the money for his upcoming wedding in Cuba in a couple of weeks.

“This is fantastic,” said an elated Barker. “I’m taking the whole family down south, so the money’s going to come in handy!”

Zurawski says he’s kicking himself for not going with an initial prediction of 10 degrees.

“Then a few minutes to air, I thought, you know, I don’t think it’s going to warm up, I don’t think we’re going to get into the warm sector. And a lot of areas in Nova Scotia didn’t,” he said. “However – the airport did.”

Zurawski says it’s pretty unusual to make such accurate predictions in the winter and spring. He says it’s more typical in the summer season.

“Running from July through to October, (the temperature) seems to be very predictable,” he said. “Once you get into the winter, the rain-snow kind of thing, it’s not as predictable. And the spring is just awful, that’s the one that gives me the heebie-jeebies.”

The News 95.7 weather jackpot has been reset at $500, and listeners will have to re-submit their information to be entered in the next draw.
