Man wounded in metro’s 12th shooting since mid-March

For the third night in a row, police are investigating gunfire in metro.
A quiet street in east-end Dartmouth is the scene of the latest shooting.
Someone sprayed three homes on Stewart Harris Drive with bullets at 10:40 Thursday night. Although one bullet penetrated one of the homes, Sgt. Richard Gilroy says police initially believed no one was hurt.
“A short time later, a young male in his twenties showed up at Dartmouth General Hospital with a gunshot wound to his back,” he said.
Gilroy says the hospital was briefly under lockdown while the man was being treated. He’s now been released, and Gilroy says the victim is cooperating with investigators.
“That’s my impression, after talking to the investigators, they’ve certainly got some leads to work on and so we’re pleased with that,” he said.
It’s the 12th shooting in metro since March 16 and Gilroy says police are getting increasingly concerned.
“It is very serious and we’re taking this very seriously,” he said. “We expended a great deal of resources last night and we still have investigators at it now.”
Gilroy says it’s not believed this shooting was random.
