Changes coming for Access Nova Scotia in Halifax, and drivers across the province

Renewing your driver’s license, vehicle permits, or getting a birth certificate will soon mean a drive out to Bayer’s Lake business park.
Access Nova Scotia is moving out of the west end mall on October 1.
Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations Ramona Jennex says she understands people’s concerns.
“This is one of those situations where there was no space available for us,” she said. “To be able to get the space, it is on public transit and it will have enough parking we are moving out to Bayers Lake.”
Jennex says the lease on the current location could not be renewed and there is no space on the peninsula for the government office.
The location won’t be the only thing that’s different about your next trip to Access Nova Scotia.
Starting this week the province has been asking for height and eye colour as it phases in a more technologically advanced I.D. card.
Angel Limgenco with Service Nova Scotia says there’s no need to get a new card – unless yours is expiring.
“What you have now is perfectly valid,” she said. “But when you go for renewal you’re going to get a new one.”
Over the spring, the government is phasing in the I.D. cards which have enhanced technology to capture photos and signatures.
The change is part of the government’s commitment to protect Nova Scotians from personal identity theft.
