Principal of Junior High faces dismissal

Parents and fellow educators today came to the defence of Graham Creighton Jr High principal Ken Fells.

Fells is now on administrative leave and faces dismissal next week after an incident with a student in March of this year.

Nobody’s saying just what Fells did, but Brad Barton of the Black Educators Association says he was simply trying to defuse a potentially volatile situation in his school.

“Why should a school administrator fight for his professional career after defending a female student for being bullied and harassed by male schoolmate,” said Barton. “Why should a school staff be faced with students who defy them without fear of consequences.”

He says the issue of school discipline everywhere is at stake here. The school board meets Wednesday to decide Fells fate. A community meeting is planned for Monday night to rally support behind Fells.

A police investigation into the incident determined no charges were warranted.
