Seniors evacuate high-rise due to fire

A fire in a restaurant early Sunday morning on Spring Garden Road forced some seniors out of their apartments.

Fire crews responded to a fire at the Saege restaurant around 3 a.m. this morning.

Platoon Chief Gary McCurdy says they evacuated some residents in the apartments above the restaurant as a precautionary measure.

“It’s a high-rise apartment building with eleven stories and a lot of the residents are seniors,” said McCurdy. “So their health and safety was the main concern.”

McCurdy says fire crews quickly knocked down the electrical fire and were able to get residents back in their apartments.

The restaurant suffered smoke damage, and some water damage from sprinklers.
