Waterfront development facing one-year delay

A major development on the waterfront has hit a pretty major delay.

The $75 million Salter Block project which will include a hotel, condo and retail complex was approved in April.

Under the agreement with HRM, the developers were required to have footings in the ground this month.

Centennial Group and the Waterfront Development Corporation have now asked for a one-year extension, saying it could take that long to lay the foundations.

Downtown Councillor Dawn Sloane tells the CBC she’s not worried that the extension request means the project won’t happen.

She says it’s purely a paperwork issue.

Regional council will vote on the extension request tonight.
