Final preparations for Royal Visit well underway

Preparations continue for Monday’s Royal Visit to Nova Scotia. Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip are scheduled to land at Stanfield International Aiport at 2 p.m June 28th. They’ll leave on Wednesday.

The public’s first chance to see and hear the Queen will be Monday at 3 p.m., when the royal couple arrives at the garrison grounds for their official welcome to Canada.

After that ceremony, there will be a walk-about.

Chief of protocol and Royal tour co-ordinator Florence Sassine says there are rules to follow: speak to the Queen only if spoken to, don’t try to touch her, but handing her Majesty flowers is acceptable.

“Absolutely,” she says, “[flowers are] a nice gesture. A lot of people have asked if they could and absolutely you can.”

12 year-old Logan MacGillivray of Bedford has the honour of giving the Queen a bouquet at the garrison grounds. “I’m so excited to meet someone so high up in Royalty. It’s going to be such an honour to meet her.”

The highlight for Tuesday will be when the Queen takes in the International Fleet Review.
