Police and RCMP nab 14 suspected dunk drivers

It will be an expensive Canada Day weekend for some in the Halifax area.

Six people were charged with impaired driving by RCMP.

The majority are under the age of 40.

A 19-year-old woman stopped for speeding on the Prospect Road was charged with driving drunk Thursday. Later that night, a 25-year-old was charged after he tried avoiding a check point in Lower Sackville.

Someone called in a complaint of an impaired driver on Highway 101 that led police to charging a 37-year-old man.

Another 37-year-old was charged after his car ended up in the ditch in Hammond Plains and a 25-year-old was stopped and charged in Cole Harbour.

Another phone tip led police to charging a 55-year-old man in Westphal with refusing the breathalyzer.

RCMP say there were another four other people who had their license suspended for 24 hours for having a blood alcohol level between .05 and .08.

Halifax police say they charged a total of eight people with driving drunk over the long weekend.
