Drunk drivers, speeders a summer priority for traffic cops

Summer in Halifax means there are a lot of extra people on the streets – both locals and visitors – and police are warning drivers to be on their best behaviour.
Cst. Brian Palmeter says because it’s BBQ and beer season, the HRP traffic unit will focus on keeping drunk drivers off the road during the month of July.
He also says after handing out nearly 2000 speeding tickets last month, the traffic unit will also be cracking down on speeders.
“Take your time, obey the speed limit, and get to where you’re going to safe. If you are a few minutes late then better there safe than not there at all,” he said. “Be aware there are extra people using our streets as far as pedestrians, cyclists and tourists go.”
Palmeter says speed often plays a role in collisions and the simplest piece of advice is to obey the posted speed limit.
