Child forgotten at beach by day care

A mother from the Lake Echo area will be keeping her six-year-old son and his sister at home for the summer after the boy was left behind by his day care at the Oakfield Park Beach.
This is the second such incident in recent months and the Department of Community Services will be investigating.
Owen Rennie-Monroe and his sister Abbie went to the beach on Wednesday with their day care. A day of fun in the sun took an unexpected turn when Owen asked to go to the washroom.
When he came out everyone was gone.
Staff with the East Preston Day Care Centre had miscounted the kids, but returned when they realized their error.
Owen’s mother, Krista Rennie tells CTV that’s not good enough.
“I look at my son and I can’t help thinking what could have happened,” she said.
“I’m just so thankful there were great lifeguards and people there to take care of my son.”
Martha Gillis with the Department of Community Services tells CTV they’ll investigate the incident fully.
“Of course we’re concerned about children and their safety,” she said. “That is the main role of licensing, to ensure safety in the facilities.”
This is the second such investigation for the department in recent months.
Back in May a two-year-old boy was left behind at a Halifax park while on an outing with his day care.
