Bustling crowds welcome new seaport market

Construction crews were still hard at work with finishing touches Friday, but Saturday the crowds flocked to the new Seaport Farmers market at Pier 20.
Market manager Fred Kilcup says there is still some work to do, but it shouldn’t interfere with market-goers.
“It is just about finished, we’ve working at it construction-wise, for a little over a year now and we’re near the end on it but we’ve got a bit more work to do,” said Kilcup on News 95.7’s Maritime Morning Friday.
That feeling is being echoed by some people who packed the market Saturday. Kim thinks the new space has real potential.
“They’re open a little prematurely I think,” Some people are having a problem getting organized. Once the flow starts and everyone knows what direction to go in I think it will be great.”
The old market was cramped and crowded and many shoppers liked the big open spaces that the new market now offers.
“Usually I go to the market and go in and get out as fast as I can and get what I need,” says Mark. “But I’ve been here for over an hour and a half and it’s a great experience.”
There’s been some controversy surrounding the move. Approximately 65 vendors have chosen to stay at the market’s old location at the Keith’s Brewery, most of who say they like the historic charm of the location.
However the brewery location was pretty quiet Saturday morning.
