Deputy mayor seeking to revive debate on council size

The debate over downsizing regional council may not be over just yet.
Deputy Mayor Brad Johns has given notice that he’ll ask council to rescind the motion to keep council at 23 members plus the mayor.
Mayor Peter Kelly tells Metro Halifax council will vote on the motion to rescind next week. If it passes, the question of downsizing is open for debate once again.
Councillors spent five hours on August 3 arguing over reducing the number of councillors, and defeated motions for 16, 18 and 20 members plus the mayor.
Councillor Sue Uteck says she wants a smaller council, but doesn’t believe another debate will change anyone’s mind.
