There’s been another guard assault at the Burnside jail.
Sgt. Don Moser with Halifax police says they responded the jail 4:15 Friday afternoon and the guard was sent to the Dartmouth General Hospital.
Moser says they expect to lay charges.
“The matter remains under investigation,” he said. “There are some statements we are gathering, and we do expect to lay charges.”
The suspect, who is not named, remains at the Burnside jail.
Joan Jessome, president of the union that represents jail guards, says an inmate punched the guard in the face a couple of times during a cell inspection.
Jessome says the guard drove himself to hospital after the incident and other guards at the jail indicated the injuries weren’t serious.
