Architects unveil ‘bold’ design for new library

Architects have unveiled some new almost-final models and drawings of the new main branch library.
The last public consultation meeting was held last night in Halifax where the design team showed off some updated concepts based on feedback from citizens.
Lead architect George Cotaras says the building will be accessible to everyone, environmentally friendly with a view of the harbour.
There will be space for books, cafés, computers, and possibly a music lab.
Architect Morten Schmidt tells the Herald the design is “very bold,” based on horizontal slabs which will break up the mass of the five-storey building.
Construction is expected to start next year and the library should be open by 2014.
