Spryfield murder not a random act: police

Halifax police are still waiting for autopsy results but they’ve ruled the shooting death of a 20-year-old Spryfield man a homicide.
Brandon Lewis Hatcher died in hospital Friday night after he was found wounded in the 100 block of Lavender Walk.
Constable Brian Palmeter tells News 95.7 this was no random attack.
“The victim was the intended target and he likely would have known his assailants,” Palmeter said. “We’re asking anyone with information about this incident to contact investigators or anonymously through Crimestoppers.”
Police believe another Friday night shooting likely took place in the Spryfield area as well but Palmeter says they don’t think there’s a connection.
“There’s no information to suggest that the shooting and the homicide are linked,” he said. “However, investigators will, through the course of their investigation, keep an open mind and follow up any avenues.”
The 22-year-old victim – who has not been identified – is expected to survive.
No arrests have been made in either case.
