Pete’s Frootique security glitch explained

Pete’s Frootique says it’s found the glitch that let an online job applicant see the applications from other people.
The possible security breach was reported earlier this week, after a woman went online to apply for work with Pete’s and somehow saw a lot more than she was supposed to.
The company that runs the job-application site scrutinized the logs and says that woman was the only person to see the information, and that none of it contained bank info, social insurance numbers or dates of birth.
“The issue was confirmed to be from the third party software provider ExactHire that links to our Pete’s website and retains our recruitment data,” says Pete’s CEO Dianne Hamilton.
ExactHire says there was no hacking involved — it was just a glitch that’s been fixed.
“What caused this to happen was an extremely unique convergence of events that allowed one applicant to inadvertently gain administrative access to the database”, says Jeff Hallam of ExactHire. “The investigation determined there were no instances of outside ‘hacking’ or other malicious attempts to access data within the Pete’s website. The glitch in the system that contributed to this access has been identified, fixed and the system is secure.
“We take full responsibility for the error,” says Hallam. “We sincerely regret this unfortunate breach of security and any negative reflection this may have caused”.
The Pete’s career site should be back online today.
