Should convicted MLAs lose their pensions?

In the aftermath of the charges laid in the MLA expenses scandal, the focus is turning now to whether the politicians should have their pensions revoked if they end up convicted.
Jordi Morgan addressed the subject on Maritime Morning, asking Liberal Leader Stephen McNeil if politicians who are convicted should lose their pensions. McNeil wouldn’t commit to an answer.
“This potentially could be something that would be looked at going forward,” said McNeil, “but I would say going backwards it’s one of those things that there’s probably precedents already set.”
“Now whether they should have their pension or not, again, is one of those questions that I have to be a politician on,” said Conservative MLA Chris D’Entremont. “I don’t know.”
One caller to the talk show agreed it’s a hard call to make, but suggests convicted politicians should get their contributions back, plus interest.
