Nova Scotia island for sale, Cost: $5 million

Are you in the market to own your own island? Well now’s your chance!

There’s one for sale in Nova Scotia for a mere $5 million.

It’s Long Island – one of the well-known Five Islands in the Minas Basin.

Dick Lemon, a retired lawyer from California bought the island sight unseen based on a picture on a bulletin board in 2003 for $75,000.

Steps were built up the side of the island’s cliffs to allow access to the three-bedroom house and four cottages that Lemon built.

He employed nearly 20 area residents turning the island into an artist’s retreat.

Lemon offered the facility to artists and university staff but never operated it as a for-profit business and he says he’ll continue to make the island’s accommodations available to artists until it’s sold.
