Forecasters predict active hurricane season

It looks like we’re in for another active storm season in Atlantic Canada. Forecasters are calling for 12 to 18 major storms this season.
Chris Fogarty with the Canadian Hurricane Center in Dartmouth predicts six to ten of those storms to be hurricanes.
“The average number of hurricanes over the long term, over the past 50 years is about six,” says Fogarty. “Over the last ten to 15 years where we’ve had heightened levels of activity in terms of hurricanes. It’s more like eight. So it’s generally above the long-term average but not largely different from what we consider normal.”
Of the six to ten predicted hurricanes this season, Fogary expects two of them to have an impact on Atlantic Canada.
The first named storm this year will be Arlene followed by Bret and Cindy. Hurricane season runs from June 1st until the end of November.
