Cup Final schedule not designed for most Canuck fans

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – We really have nothing to complain about most would say, the Canucks have made the Stanley Cup Final. But the schedule has some wondering whose best interests are being served.

If you were hoping the team would see a Game 7 tired, travel-weary Eastern Conference competitor on Sunday or Monday, NBC, sorry, the NHL has a different plan. The best-of-seven series will begin Wednesday in Vancouver, and all the games start at 5pm.

Dave Van Hoeke with the Yaletown Brewing Company says they’re puzzled by the early start times, but feels they make it up afterward. “We’re used to the seven o’clock’s, right? Then you’d have a nice pre-game rush, then you’d see people during the game and the dynamic whether they’d win or they’d lose. A winning night spells a good post-game as well.”

As far as only one Saturday game in the Cup Final, Van Hoeke says it’d be great to have weekends.”But we’re busy anyways and this spreads it out over the week.”

He says for several years it’s been Round 2 and out, so all these games are bonuses. Canuck fans commenting on the Internet aren’t being so civil, with some predicting Rogers Arena will be half-empty for the start of Game 1 on Wednesday.

One writes, “I guess I’ll be leaving work early in order to get home in time for the opening face off – can I bill the NHL for my lost time?”
