New Commons parking plan a mix of permit, pay and display

Regional councillors will debate a new parking plan for the streets around the Halifax Common this week.
A proposal for permit-only street parking was defeated in January but the latest version calls for a combination of pay-and-display spaces on the streets next to the Common, with permit parking in nearby residential areas.
Metro Halifax reports the permits would be made available to residents first $30 each, and then offered to the general public.
The pay-and-display parking would run from $1.50 an hour to a daily maximum of $7.50, which would bring in an estimated $135,000 a year.
The revenue would be used to pay for sustainable transportation projects.
