Police lay charges in connection with Easter murder

Two people are facing charges in connection with a murder in Lake Echo this past April. Stacey Adams, 20, was shot to death over the Easter long weekend. His body was found inside a parked car on Shadewell Lane.
Steven Skinner, 38, is charged with second degree murder in the case. A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for his arrest.
“He’s well known to police,” says Halifax Regional Police Superintendent Stephen Sykes. “That’s what I know about the guy, he’s well known to police, he’s been involved with the law before.”
Also charged in the case is Brittany Derbyshire, 23, for being an accessory after the fact in the homicide of Adams. She was arrested without incident on Friday in Dartmouth. Derbyshire remains in police custody.
Superintendent Sykes believes the fatal shooting was an isolated incident.
“We have information that the suspect and the deceased knew each other,” he says. “It’s just part of the ongoing violence in the HRM. It certainly wasn’t random. We believe it’s all part of the drug culture. You know, guns and drugs.”
Sykes will not comment on whether the accused or victim have any connection to the Melvin-Marriott drug wars.
