Fatal dog attack in Dartmouth

A small terrier had to be euthanized after being attacked by at least one large dog, that was running off-leash, in Dartmouth Monday evening.
Constable Brian Palmeter says a woman was walking her terrier on a leash in the area of Dorothea Drive near Eric Graves Memorial Junior High.
He says three people approached with two dogs, one on a leash, the other off a leash. He says the off-leash dog attacked the terrier.
“When the bigger dog attacked her dog, during the struggle, the victim dog was able to get away and took off running, followed by it’s owner and the dog ended up running home,” he says.
He says they haven’t identified the other dogs or the people, but Palmeter says the little dog’s injuries were so severe that he had to be put down by a vet.
The attacking dog is described as solid red, short-haired, female dog, similar to a pit bull. Palmeter says that off-leash dog has not been found. The dog that was on a leash is described as a black version of the other dog, and Palmeter says it was not involved in the attack.
The people with the animals are described as two men and a woman. She is white, 5’4″ wtih glasses and shoulder length blonde hair. The men are in their 20s with medium builds and short hair. Palmeter says the men did try to intervene and pull the red dog off the victim dog.
Palmeter says the police are asking anyone with information about who may own the attacking dogs or the owners to come forward.
