First gas from Deep Panuke delayed as platform work continues

The company that owns the Deep Panuke production platform off Nova Scotia says it could be the middle of next year before natural gas is flowing from the $960 million project.

That’s another six months behind schedule for the EnCana Corp. project that was originally slated to produce first gas a year ago.

Sebastiaan de Ronde Bresser of Single Buoy Moorings Inc. said Thursday from Boston that completion of the platform is taking longer than expected.

He said his company’s portion of the preparatory work should be done by the second quarter of 2012.

Single Buoy Moorings owns the platform and is leasing it to Calgary-based EnCana for eight years.

EnCana spokeswoman Lori MacLean said Thursday her company doesn’t have a projected date now on first gas.
