Police in New Glasgow are getting reports of scam artists trying to capitalize on the Amber Kirwan case.
Cst. Ken MacDonald says police have received complaints about phoney fundraisers going door to door asking people for money to help with the search.
They’ve also been reported canvassing at some grocery stores.
MacDonald tells the Herald officers haven’t been able to confirm the reports yet.
The head of a volunteer group collecting donations for the Kirwan family tells Metro there’s only one person collecting money and one account is set up at TD Trust.
MacDonald suggests anyone who wants to make a donation should do it through a reputable organization, rather than handing cash over to a stranger.
Kirwan was last seen Oct. 9. The search continued Tuesday with RCMP divers in the river near Kirwan’s Pictou Landing home.
