2012 could be more costly if you’re a homeowner in Nova Scotia.
This year’s property assessments will be in the mail, starting today.
A former official with the defunct Halifax Regional Homewners Association says he expects Nova Scotians will pay more across the board.
Owen Carrigan tells the Herald they’ve been going up constantly and they never stop, even when it’s a buyer’s market.
Property values have gone up by more than six per cent in each of the last two years.
Carrigan cites cases in south-end Halifax where investors buy homes with little price negotiation to convert them into boarding houses.
The higher sale prices, in turn, affect the property value of nearby single-family homes.
