Mislabelled daytime and nighttime sinus pills recalled

OTTAWA (NEWS1130) – Health Canada has issued a drug recall that could have had dangerous outcomes. It comes as cold and flu season is still hitting many of us and we’re already feeling groggy after the daylight saving time shift.
The problem is mislabelled blister packs of Rexall’s Extra Strength Sinus Relief Daytime and Nighttime caplets. It makes it hard to tell which is daytime or nighttime.
While a daytime caplet in the night isn’t a problem, the nighttime pill is strong enough to be used as a sleep aid because it contains diphenhydramine hydrochloride. That could be dangerous during the day if you are doing anything where you need to be alert – like driving.
Health Canada says it is not aware of any reports of injury or adverse reactions due to the error.
Lot 00058398B is affected by the voluntary recall.
The product was available in stores across Canada. The company is advising wholesalers, pharmacies and retailers to return unused tablets to their distributor or Vita Health for destruction.
