Convention centre still a work in progress: developer

An update on the new convention centre proposed for downtown Halifax could be right around the corner.
Developer Joe Ramia spoke with reporters in Halifax Tuesday, suggesting he could be ready to make an announcement on the Nova Centre project by the fall.
Ramia says there have been complications with the $500 million development, but remains optimistic that it will move forward.
The project has been stalled since August 2011, when the federal government agreed to commit $51.4 million to the project.
At that time, it was believed construction could begin as early as spring 2012.
The facility includes the convention centre, a hotel, residential and retail space and a financial office tower.
Ramia says the efforts to secure a main tenant were frustrated by the global economic crisis, but he says he’s been having meetings with companies and institutions from around the world – and has made up ground.
