Local drivers cheering as gas prices fall again

As the summer temperatures continue to rise, the price of gasoline in Nova Scotia continues to fall.
The provincial regulator has trimmed three cents from regulated prices this week, moving the price of regular self-serve to $1.211 in metro.
Diesel prices didn’t change from $1.183 in metro.
Prices have been falling since early April and local drivers tell News 95.7 they’re hoping the price will get even lower before the summer is out.
“I hope they keep going down. It’s ridiculous,” said Penny, visiting Halifax from the U.S. “It’s $3.67 a gallon where we are. But I heard it will continue to go down.”
Brad, from Halifax, says he thinks there’s room for further drops – but says it’s unlikely we’ll ever see gas prices below a dollar a litre again.
“No, no never,” he laughed. “I have a better chance of getting a front seat on the space shuttle. It’s not going to happen. Obviously it’s costing more to produce as time goes on. And they already know we’re going to pay $1.50 a litre.”
Richard says the only way the price of gasoline would dip below a dollar would be if the province cut the fuel tax.
“Given their poor fiscal situation, that would never happen,” he said.
Although double-digit prices may be a thing of the past, the current reductions are enough to make drivers re-consider their summer vacation plans.
“It’s going to be a great thing for people this summer who are travelling,” said one man. “It’s something that could maybe help tourism. I’m looking at some weekend trips, hopefully.”
“It’s great, it means you can travel now and have a vacation,” said one woman. “It’s great timing.”
“If the gas prices are reasonable people will travel. That’s huge in the summertime,” said Penny. “People I know in the States are not going anywhere because of the gas prices being so high.”
At this time last year, drivers in metro were paying $1.26 for gas and $1.27 for diesel. Oil was selling for $93 U.S., well above Thursday’s close of just above $78.
