Navy spy case pushed back again

A Canadian Navy intelligence officer facing two charges related to spying will not be entering election of plea for at least two more weeks after his lawyer ask for additional time to review the case.

Sub-Lt. Jeffrey Paule Delisle is charged under the security of Information Act that deals with communicating information that could harm Canada’s interests.

He was expected to enter a plea at the Halifax Provincial Court on Spring Garden Wednesday morning and instead his lawyer Mike Taylor asked that the matter be pushed back until July 17.

“I received some disclosure late Friday afternoon which I just haven’t had time to go through,” Taylor told reporters outside the courtroom. “I received a lengthy report and some documents that pertain to the search warrant that was issued. I need a chance to look at those and talk to Mr Delisle about what we are going to do next.”

Taylor made a similar request in June when he told the judge he needed more time to sift through thousands of documents before deciding how to proceed.

Now Taylor says he anticipates disclosure is complete and his client will be able to enter an election and plea during his next court appearance.
