The wooden house trucked halfway across town to become a residence for homeless young people has lost some of its funding.
Director of Metro Non-Profit Housing Association Carol Charlebois says she recieved a letter from the department of community services that says the province will not support a request to fund the project.
She tells Halifax Media Co-op the project will still go ahead but it will take longer than expected.
The letter indicates the project does not align with the department’s housing strategy of encouraging mixed income neighbourhoods.
Community Services critic Kelly Regan calls it a shot across the bow of every housing organization that serves a single client base.
“We questioned the government at community services committee last Thursday, they did everything they could to shut down that questioning, we basically got to question the government on their housing strategy for less than half an hour,” said Regan.
Morris House, the oldest wooden structure in the city at 249-years-old, was spared demolition in 2009 and in late January moved from a downtown parking lot to its new home on Creighton Street.
