Amherst couple win $1 million in Atlantic 49

A trip to Prince Edward Island turned into a million dollars for an Amherst, N.S., couple.

John Lewis and Jan MacKinnon traveled to Charlottetown on June 29 for the Big Red Music Festival and decided to pick up an Atlantic 49 ticket while they were there.

Two weeks later, they finally checked that ticket and discovered the match – all six numbers – worth $1 million.

The couple has no plans for retirement. John says he plans to upgrade his 4-wheeler and park a couple of new cars in the driveway, while Jan has her heart set on traveling.

They’ll be at Atlantic Lottery headquarters in Moncton, N.B., this afternoon to pick up their $1 million cheque.
