15 people injured after deck collapses

15 people were injured after a deck they were standing on collapsed twelve feet to the ground.

Police say the accident happened at a home in the 100 block of Green Village Lane in Dartmouth at 1:30 a.m. Staff Sgt. Bill Morris says police, fire and EHS crews were called to the back deck to find all the injured.

“They range from cuts, bruises, broken bones, and fractures. Most of them were taken to the QEII and Dartmouth General hospital,” explained Morris. “Four people were taken to hospital in serious, but non life-threatening, condition.”

Police say there were also two people standing under the deck when it collapsed. Morris says it’s unclear what caused the deck to break.

“We believe they were all on the deck at the same time when it collapsed,” said Morris.

Police and fire are investigating.
