Halifax-area teacher facing sex-related charges has release conditions changed

HALIFAX – A Halifax-area teacher facing sex-related charges returned to provincial court on Thursday, as her lawyer successfully petitioned to have her release conditions somewhat loosened.
Sarah Allt Harnish, 36, was arrested by RCMP March 11 after receiving a report in February of an alleged inappropriate relationship with a student at Five Bridges Junior High.
Harnish, a grade nine teacher at the same school, did not physically appear in court Thursday but her lawyer Joel Pink appeared on her behalf.
Pink put forward an application to have Allt Harnish’s release conditions changed so she can attend her daughter’s soccer activities and drop her son off at daycare, as after her arrest, she was forbade from attending places where people under the age of 16 were to frequent.
The Crown and Judge both agreed to the conditions with the stipulation that Allt Harnish must be accompanied by another adult during those times.
Pink said he had yet to receive any evidence in the matter and had it put over until June 10.
Allt Harnish stepped down as a coach and board member with the Halifax County United Soccer Club after her arrest and also quit her job as assistant coach with Mount Saint Vincent University women’s soccer team.
