Off-duty officer alledgedly assaulted stopping break-in

HALIFAX – A 41-year-old man is facing charges of break and enter and assaulting a police officer after an incident Wednesday in Halifax.

Const. Alicia Joseph says an off-duty police officer was told about a break and enter happening nearby in the 2300 block of Creighton Street.

The officer found the suspect in a nearby home, and in attempting to subdue him, a struggle broke out. The suspect allegedly punched and kicked the officer, and the suspect ended up with a broken nose.

The incident was refereed to the Serious Incident Response Team, but they quickly determined there was no need to investigate.

41-year-old Stephen Probert was to be in court Thursday to face his charges.
