Nova Scotia man charged with first-degree murder in decade-old case

SYDNEY, N.S. – A Cape Breton man has been charged in the murder of an 82-year-old Second World War veteran more than 10 years ago.
Cape Breton Regional Police say 49-year-old Raymond Glenn Farrow of Glace Bay was arrested Wednesday and is facing a charge of first-degree murder in the death of Harold “Buster” Slaunwhite.
Slaunwhite was found dead in his Dominion home by a relative on Sept. 10, 2006.
Police Chief Peter McIsaac says a large photo of Slaunwhite dressed in his Legion attire and service medals was posted in the operations room to serve as motivation for the officers involved in the 10-year-old investigation.
He says forensic evidence is what led to the charge against Farrow, although he would not elaborate.
McIsaac says he had an emotional meeting with Slaunwhite’s family on Wednesday, adding that he hopes the charge brings some closure to the small, tight-knit coastal community of roughly 1,900 people.
