RCMP have charged an Upper Sackville man with second degree murder after a fatal fire in a shed detached from a home on South Rawdon Road in the Municipal District of East Hants.
Police were called on April 3, 2017 after the remains of 27-year-old Laura Ross were found inside the shed, about 15 km north of Mount Uniacke.
Investigators determined the fire was intentionally set and ruled the death a homicide.
Wednesday, 27-year-old Joshua Eric Crowell of Upper Sackville was taken into custody in Halifax, he was charged with second degree murder early Thursday.
Nova Scotia RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jennifer Clarke told NEWS 95.7 it was a detailed and complicated investigation.
“We put a significant amount of time and resources to find the person responsible,” she explained. “We’re really hoping that can help to bring some closure and some answers to the family.”
Clarke wouldn’t say if police were looking for any other suspects in the case.
Crowell will appear in Shubenacadie Provincial Court Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m.
