Haligonians support plastic bag ban: CRA poll

A new poll by Corporate Research Associates says 71 per cent of people living in Halifax support banning plastic shopping bags.
This issue recently came before Halifax Regional Council.
Last month councillors voted to have municipal staff look at options to reduce film plastics in HRM, including a possible ban on plastic shopping bags.
They also voted in favour of having Mayor Mike Savage write a letter to the premier to express support for a province-wide ban, a move environment minister Iain Rankin has said he's “seriously considering.”
Polling by CRA in other Maritime cities showed similar results, with Moncton having the most support for a ban at 76 per cent. In Fredericton, 74 per cent are in favour, and in Saint John it's 70 per cent.
“Indeed, this strong level of public support for such a ban should encourage political action on this important environmental issue,” said CRA CEO Don Mills in a news release.
CRA's results come from an independent telephone survey of 401 Halifax (Census Metropolitan Area [CMA]) adult residents, 18 years of age or older. It was conducted from January 26 to February 12, 2018. The polling company says overall results are accurate to within ±4.9 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times.
