EHS, Halifax Fire responding to medical emergency on cargo ship

By Dave Heintzman

Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency Services is downtown on Marginal Road at the scene of a medical emergency.

Division Commander Lloyd Currie telling NEWS 95.7 a call came in shortly after 7:30 about an individual on a container ship requiring medical assistance.

HRM spokesperson Brendan Elliott was able to provide further details, saying emergency services were called to a cargo ship on Pier 27 for reports of a person in cardiac arrest.

He says there were some challenges involved in how to assist, as the patient was on the third level above the main deck, so about 50-60 feet off the ground.

Currie confirmed a ladder truck is on scene helping get the person off the ship and to medical care, while Elliott says EHS is taking the lead with assistance from Halifax Fire.
