Man dies when canoe overturns in Shortts Lake

By Meghan Groff

A 58-year-old Truro man is dead after a canoe overturned on Shortts Lake.

RCMP say two men had been in the boat when it flipped over into the lake near Brookfield at around noon Friday.

One of the men made it back to the surface was able to swim ashore.

A woman used a paddleboard to try and save the other man but police say he wasn't able to stay afloat.

Police say there were personal flotation devices in the canoe, but the men were not wearing them.

RCMP are still investigating the incident and have requested help from the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service.
