Storm closures and cancellations: Thursday, Mar. 3, 2022

A special weather statement is in effect for the Halifax area Thursday, calling for near 10 cm of snow. Here's the closures and cancellations prompted by the impending weather.

SCHOOLS:

All schools are closed Thursday in the Halifax Regional Centre for Education. 

Metro CSAP schools have also cancelled classes. 

Schools are also closed in the South Shore, Tri-County and Annapolis Valley regional education centres. Strait regional will be letting students out early, while Chignecto Central says schools are closed in the East Hants area. 

NSCC Metro Campuses (Ivany, Aviation, IT and Akerley) will close at 12pm today due to inclement weather

MSVU will suspend campus operations at 3pm. All campus buildings will be closed and on-campus classes starting after 3pm are cancelled. Online classes may continue, tech permitting. 

TRANSPORTATION: 

Expect many Halifax Transit bus routes to be on snow plan this afternoon to reroute around steep hills and other tricky spots.

The winter parking ban will be enforced overnight.

The Bedford Highway has reopened following an earlier crash at Bayview Road. 

Poilce are urging drivers to be extra cautious during the afternoon commute.

RECREATION:

Captain William Spry Public Library is closing early at 3:00 p.m.

Musquodoboit Harbour Public Library is closing early at 2:30 p.m.

The pools at Captain William Spry, Needham, and Sackville Sports Stadium are closing starting at 3 p.m.

EVENTS:

A vigil for Ukraine planned at MSVU has been postponed.

BUSINESSES:

The 2nd shift at Halifax Shipyard, Marine Fabricators & Woodside Industries is cancelled.

Some businesses may be closing early today.

SERVICES: 

Due to HRCE school closures today, YPHD before and after school programs are cancelled.
