HRM expands ‘last-minute’ online booking for fields, courts, gyms

The Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) has expanded its “Last-Minute Rentals,” offering residents the opportunity to book spaces like fields, courts and gymnasiums for personal use.
“This service increases residents’ access to indoor and outdoor facilities while also making the process more convenient overall,” an HRM news release says.
Starting May 4, people in the HRM can book places such as all-weather sports fields, recreation centre gymnasiums and outdoor sports courts for individual or group use.
Book-able spaces include arenas at the Zatzman Sportsplex, RBC Centre, Sackville Sports Stadium, St. Margaret's Centre, HRM 4-Pad and Lebrun Arena.
It also includes all-weather fields in five areas across the HRM, including Upper Sackville's Weir Field as well as fields in Cole Harbour and Bedford–Hammonds Plains.
Gymnasiums in several Halifax Regional Centre for Education schools and various community courts can also be rented.
“Last-minute rentals are online rentals that will be offered after all the allocations for seasonal contracts have been completed,” the HRM's website says. “Any time available for rent after seasonal contracts have been determined is considered available for a last-minute rental.”
Arenas, gymnasiums and all-weather fields can only be booked within 14 days prior to the proposed booking slot. Courts can be booked within seven days.
To book a last-minute rental online, people must create a MyREC account and visit the HRM's website.
