Jason Cyrus returns to Halifax with an even more hypnotizing show

Renowned hypnotist Jason Cyrus is returning to Halifax for the first time since the start of the pandemic.

With the launch of his Rewired Tour, the New Brunswick-based entertainer will be hypnotizing hundreds of Atlantic Canadians — including many of those at his June 11 show at Halifax’s Spatz Theatre.

“I am so proud of this show, and when people talk to me about the show, it’s just so much more than just a hypnosis show,” says Cyrus. “It is a true journey through the unconscious mind.”

A show that has been in development for more than two years due to the pandemic, Cyrus says the Rewired Tour will not only leave audiences in stitches with laughter but will also provide a more meaningful experience.

“As funny as it is, there is one routine in particular — and I don’t want to give it away — but it is a very emotional routine,” insists the Moncton-based showman. “So the show is high, high, high, laughing and then all of a sudden, people are like, ‘wow’ — showing the true power of the unconscious mind.”

Although Cyrus has been steadily gaining a solid reputation in the world of hypnosis for years (even being called “Canada’s Stage Hypnosis King” in Niagara Falls), part of the reason he has been able to perfect his latest tour is due to the dedication he poured into the craft during his downtime provided by the pandemic.

“When the pandemic hit, I was doing 40 to 50 events a year,” admits Cyrus, who also runs a world-class clinical hypnotherapist practice out of Moncton. “Then all of a sudden, my life stopped on March 11, 2020, and I was like, ‘what am I going to do?’”

Cyrus quickly set out to make use of his time. He completed a three-year naturopath course in 13 months before signing up with the Australia-based Neuro Change Institute to obtain his credentials as a Neuro Change Practitioner (NCP).

“The silver lining of the pandemic was that I just completely immersed myself into the study,” admits Cyrus. “It was a six week course and I studied with professors from Harvard Medical School and Yale University — people that wrote the book on unconscious mind!”

His recent education only adds to Cyrus’s already impressive knowledge about the world of hypnosis and the power of the unconscious mind — a body of experience that he has amassed since he first fell in love with magic, and particularly hypnotism, after seeing legendary Australian-born illusionist and hypnotist, Peter Reveen when he just 10 years old.

Soon, the aspiring entertainer would be studying the craft and surprising friends with his own hypnotic abilities.

“I started to do this at parties, so I became the number one invite on everybody’s party lists,” recalls Cyrus, who now packs theatres and casinos across Canada with his popular shows. “I believe that anybody can be hypnotized. Hypnosis is happening all the time. I work with people therapeutically all the time and I always say that I’m taking you out of the trance that you are already in, (but) it is just being able to let go.”

Cyrus is quick to note that his shows are intended for all ages. While some stage hypnotists rely on crude gimmicks and putting their voluntary audience members in potentially humiliating situations, Cyrus says he values and respects the dignity of his crowds.

“The biggest thing that I pride myself on (is) keeping my show family friendly. It’s just something that I pride myself on and I have gained a lot of respect from my audience and my volunteers,” adds Cyrus. “When they come on stage they trust me, and if I didn’t have my volunteers I wouldn’t have a show, so I take that very, very seriously (so) everybody’s laughing together — no one is laughing at the volunteers.”
