Special weather statement issued ahead coming snow

By Meghan Groff

A special weather statement has been issued for the Atlantic coast of Nova Scotia, including the Halifax area.

Environment Canada says snow is in the forecast Monday evening and into Tuesday.

They say there's still a “considerable amount of uncertainty” when it comes to totals.

As of 8:40 a.m. Sunday, it's thought between 5 and 15 cm could fall, but “there is potential for snowfall amounts considerably higher than currently expected.”

It could also be blustery, with wind gusts of 50 km/h and up to 70 km/h along the coastline.

The snow and wind could affect Tuesday's morning commute.

Environment Canada is urging Haligonians to keep an eye on the forecast as the special weather statement could be upgraded to warnings by late Sunday afternoon.
