Halifax police charge man in connection to stabbing, robbery

Regional police have charged a man in connection to a robbery and stabbing in Halifax on Sunday.

Shortly after 6 p.m., officers responded to a robbery inside Scotia Square.

Police say a man assaulted a person and stole their property before fleeing on foot.

Later that hour, officers responded to an assault on Barrington Street involving a man matching the suspect’s description in the robbery.

The suspect stabbed a person known to him, and the victim was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Officers arrested the suspect a short time later.

John Travis MacKinnon, 32, was scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court Monday to face charges of robbery, assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and wearing a disguise during the commission of an offence.
