Hundreds still without power after Saturday’s storm

By CityNews Halifax staff

Five days without power is a long time, which is the reality that some in Nova Scotia face on Wednesday.

According to the Nova Scotia Power (NSP) outage map, as of 5:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, there were 1,396 customers without electricity.

The majority of the outages that remain are in an area stretching south from Mahone Bay to Liverpool with estimated restoration times of 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. Wednesday for most.

In a post to social media, NSP said that they still have around 1000 people in the field working to restore power.  The utility says many of the remaining outages only affect a few customers – sometimes, one customer, which slows restoration. NSP says each outage requires a couple of crews – and it takes time to remove multiple trees and repair equipment, and sometimes access can be a challenge.

NSP says throughout the storm and the immediate aftermath, more than 280,000 customers had lost power.
