Crews tackle ‘heavy’ structure fire in Hammonds Plains

A second alarm was called in as firefighters responded to a fire in Hammonds Plains on Monday afternoon.

Crews were first called out to the area of Pockwock Road and Wildberry Lane just after 2:30 p.m. to investigate black smoke that could be seen from downtown Halifax.

“While en route, a working structure fire was confirmed, and the call has since escalated to a second alarm to bring in additional resources,” wrote Halifax Professional Fire Fighters, the local union, in a post on social media.

Halifax Fire assistant chief Sherry Dean said crews had the fire under control by around 3:30 p.m. and no injuries were reported.
