Man dead after shooting in North Preston; the second murder in a week

Halifax police are investigating a murder in North Preston.

Officers were called just before 5 p.m. Sunday to a report of gunshots near the intersection of Cain and Clarence streets, according to the RCMP.

“Upon arrival, officers found 28-year-old Jayden Tynes suffering from gunshot wounds,” police wrote in a media release. “Tynes was transported to hospital by EHS where he later succumbed to his injuries.”

Police say the investigation is being led by the Major Crimes Unit, which involves both the RCMP and Halifax Regional Police.

Anyone with information on the shooting or video from the area between 4 and 6 p.m. Sunday are asked to reach out to police.

This is the sixth homicide in HRM and the second in the last week.

On Oct. 29, officers responded to a report of an injured man at a home on Richmond Street around 1:30 p.m.

Emergency crews attempted life-saving measures, but the man died from his injuries. In an email to CityNews, officials did not detail the nature of his injuries.

He was identified as Brian David Johnson, 70.
