19-year-old charged in single-vehicle collision killing 2

One person has been charged following an investigation into a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred in September.

Police responded to a single-vehicle collision on School Street in Dartmouth late in the night on Sept. 25. Officers say a car struck a tree and three people had to be extricated from the vehicle.

A 19-year-old female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene by EHS. A 19-year-old male passenger was transported to hospital where he later died of his injuries.

On Dec. 23, police arrested another 19-year-old male who they say was the driver at the time of the collision.

He now faces the following charges:

  • two counts of operating a conveyance impaired causing death;
  • two counts of operating a conveyance over legal limit causing death;
  • two counts of dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death; and
  • flight from peace officer.
